When overwhelm begins to take over

Overcoming Overwhelm and Reclaiming Your Focus

Hey there, friend! Let’s talk about something we’ve all experienced—overwhelm. You know that feeling when your to-do list is a mile long, your brain won’t stop racing, and suddenly, even the smallest task feels impossible? Yep, I’ve been there too.

In a recent episode of Coffee and Tea with CarrieVee, I shared my own struggles with overwhelm and the strategies I’ve used to regain clarity and focus. So, grab your favorite drink, get comfy, and let’s dive in!

How Do You Know You’re Overwhelmed?

Sometimes, we don’t even realize we’re overwhelmed until it starts affecting our daily lives. Here are a few telltale signs:

  • You can’t focus on one task at a time.

  • You start resenting your responsibilities.

  • Your body feels tense—think headaches, clenched jaw, or a racing heart.

  • You wake up in the middle of the night with your mind spinning.

Sound familiar? Don’t worry—you’re not alone, and there’s a way out!

My Go-To Strategies for Beating Overwhelm

Overwhelm isn’t just about having too much to do; it’s about feeling like you have no control. The good news? You can take back control! Here’s how:

1. Prioritize Sleep

If you’re skimping on sleep to “get more done,” it’s actually working against you. Sleep is non-negotiable. When you’re well-rested, you’re more productive and less stressed. So, put down the phone, turn off the TV, and get those Zzzs!

2. Set Boundaries & Say No

It’s time to stop saying “yes” to everything and start protecting your peace. If something doesn’t align with your priorities, it’s okay to say no. In fact, it’s necessary.

3. Use a Targeted To-Do List

Forget random sticky notes all over your desk. Instead, create a focused list of what actually needs to get done, estimate how long each task will take, and schedule it into your day. Trust me, your brain will thank you!

4. Ask for Help

Needing help doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means you’re smart! Whether it’s delegating tasks, hiring a coach, or just talking it out with a friend, getting support is a game-changer.

5. Move Your Body

A quick walk, some stretching, or even just stepping outside for fresh air can do wonders. Your body holds onto stress, and movement helps release it.
