The Power of Events with Shay Wheat

I thoroughly enjoyed sitting down and chatting with my friend, Shay Wheat. Shay is a Certified Event Producer™ & Creator of popular programs such as “The Powerful Event Process”, “The Ultimate Event Planner Certification Program”, and CEO of Grace & Ease Productions, Inc. We talked all about the importance and power of events. Let’s dive in to see what wisdom she has to share with us!

What is the first step of deciding what an event is going to look like?

The very first thing is we should ask ourselves is why are our people showing up? What is the purpose and what is the intention of the event? This applies to both you as the host, as well as those attending. Somebody attending could be coming for the networking or they could be coming for some type of education. They could be coming for inspiration, maybe a recognition of their accomplishments, or for a marketing or sponsorship type of opportunity. If you're the one hosting it, why are you hosting it? What is the intention? What is the promise that you are having your attendees walk away with? As you start to craft your what we call the “run of show” or the agenda, you need to make sure that that is the theme that sticks with you the entire way.

What are the 5 fundamentals of hosting an event?

  1. Take a look at your audience and your ticket sales - Who is the audience? What is the fee? What is the audience getting from the event?

  2. Run of show - What is the agenda? How are you engaging your audience? Are you inspiring? Motivating? Educating?

  3. Offer strategy - How are you drawing your audience to you? Are you offering a free course? A free gift?

  4. Your support team - Who is going to help make your event run smoothly?

  5. The budget - How are you spending your money? How are you spending your time? Even if it is a free event, there is a time exchange to be considered!

Have you ever been to event that changed your life? If there is one out there that you are wanting to attend I urge you to get there! Maybe, there is an event you want to host! There is no time like the present.
