Happiness is a Choice.
A CHOICE.
Believe it.
Happiness is a CHOICE. Having FUN is a CHOICE.
Circumstances don’t determine our ability to have fun, laugh, and smile.
WE determine that.
Even when things seem their bleakest, WE get to decide what we are going to do with our attitudes. No-one can take away your smile, your ability to remain hopeful and positive - you can only GIVE those things away.
Years ago when I lost my grandmother, I felt like my heart would stop. My dad taught me that letting the tears flow was important - but so was remembering the good times, the laughter, and the fun. And remembering all those good memories brought smiles to our faces, even in the midst of pain. I remembered that lesson when I lost my brother a few years later, and then my dad after that.
I have remembered that lesson in the midst of job losses, the trauma of working in toxic environments, family drama, broken bones, surgeries, sickness - and COVID-19.
In the midst of the trial - we can still choose to find laughter, to create fun, to remain hopeful.
When you are feeling down, turn on some music and move your body. Meditate on something funny. Watch a funny movie. Ready a funny book or article. Call and friend and talk about funny stories. And if none of that seems viable, look in the mirror and start laughing. One ha. Then a ha-ha. Then a ha-ha-ha. And so on. Your brain doesn’t know that you are faking the laugh - and eventually, it will become a real laugh and you will be belly-laughing at yourself. Let people hear you, let them wonder what your up to. Maybe you’ll get them laughing, too.
Listen - there is value in tears. But don’t stay there.
Bring in the laughter. It’s good for your body, mind, soul and spirit.
I love you.
I am your biggest fan.
Bring the Joy!
