Menopause and Productivity with Megan Sumrell
I recently had the pleasure of interviewing my friend, Megan Sumrell. Megan helps women master time management, organization, and productivity. Do you ever feel overwhelmed and frazzled? Walking through the motions day after day, “getting it done” but flat-out exhausted? We've all been there. When Megan's daughter was born, everything changed. Her entire life revolved around doing things for everyone else…boss, kids, spouse, etc. she no longer had any time for herself and was a slave to her “to-do” list. Now, she's able to be 100% present in everything she loves and STILL has time for herself. If you are exhausted from #allthethings and want to gain control over your calendar again, Megan can help YOU!
Menopause has kind of been a taboo subject that doesn’t get much discussion. What are some things that can change for us when we begin to enter this time in our lives?
We have all heard about hot flashes and changing menstrual cycles, but some things that are also altering for us is sleep, physical activity, and even mealtimes! Learning how to shift around some of the routine things that we have done throughout the day and going “no, it doesn't make sense for me to do that there anymore” is important. Another shift that can be made is with family schedules and your own personal schedule. Give this a try instead of doing what many women do, which is sacrifice themselves at any cost to keep everything else running smoothly.
What is some good advice for someone going through these changes?
Menopause looks different for everyone. If you are noticing changes, either physical or emotional, don’t discount it. Lean into really finding the right information and what may end up being ultimately the right provider for you. Find someone that you feel is listening to you and that you like the way they're talking to you.
This process of menopause is recognizing who you are now. You're emerging into a new phase of life and you need to give yourself some grace. Don't let the physical changes that feel at times out of control, determine and reshape who you are on the inside. They're very separate!
How have things changed with your productivity and dealing with menopause at the same time?
There are certain times of the month in your cycle where you are going to be able to be more productive, and times when you're you're feeling more creative versus times where you're just exhausted. So again, this is why it is important to take not and learn about your new self. This time of life isn't hard. It's just different. What your weekly plans look like now is very different than what what they may have looked like a few years ago. And that is OK!
Menopause is exactly what it says. It is a pause. A reset in life. I encourage you to challenge traditional views and thrive through this time in your life!
