I'm coffee and tea with Gary Vee. Today we're looking at the significance of color, which might seem like a pretty odd subject to talk about on a podcast. But I was thinking about color the other day, I love splashes of color. But I am drawn to yellow and green, rose gold blues TEALS and I got to thinking about color and what it signifies. Imagine what a boring world we would have if everything was the same color. Even if everything was your favorite color. If your favorite color is purple, everything's purple. You could tired of it. If your favorite color is green, but everything was green. You get tired of it. What is the significance of having color in our lives? I often wonder when when I was a kid and they were talking about people who were colorblind, I wondered what it would be like to not be able to see color. Color is important whether we're talking diversity, or we're talking our favorite color. Color signifies so much and it's a beautiful, beautiful thing. No color has dominance over another color in any way. We have our favorites. When we're looking at clothing, we're drawn to certain colors. Some people only wear white some people only wear back black. Some people only wear black and white. Some people will only wear red. Some people will only wear green. I love every color. If you look in my closet, I've got every color of the rainbow in there. But I'm drawn to yellow. I'm drawn to green. I'm drawn to blue. And if I'm honest, I'm drawn to red. And I love black and white. It is so hard for me when somebody says to me What's your favorite color? Oh my gosh to answer that question is is almost impossible for me because I love them all. But if I dial it down that yellow, yellow is a color that just makes me happy. And that's what got me thinking okay, let's, let's talk about this color thing. The color wheel Do you remember and maybe you can still get it done when they would take you through a color wheel and they would tell you if you were warm hues or bright hues or whatever, whatever would look the best on you. I don't think I ever did it but I I remember being fascinated by it and wondering what color I should wear. And then I realized, even if I got it done, I was gonna wear what I wanted to wear anyway because that's just who I am. But when I ordered a dress the other day, and it's yellow with white polka dots, or maybe it's white polka dots with the yellow dress, but I love it. And it's got white highlights. It's just It's so beautiful. The dress is gorgeous. But it would be just as beautiful to me if it was red, or if it was blue, or teal. And I got to thinking, Okay, well, why did I choose yellow. So I went on this search of what colors mean? So we're going to just talk briefly about colors, and what they symbolize the effects that they have, and the positives and the, and the negatives of that color. So we're going to start with red, red is as you would expect the color of passion, and energy, it draws attention like no other color, and it radiates this strong and powerful energy that motivates us to take action. It is used to warn and signal caution and danger. So a stop sign. Think of that. That's why we use red, it draws attention. They say not to have your bedroom painted red because it elicits more arguments. And it's the reason that a lot of restaurants have red checkered table claws because you will eat more it calls you into action. It symbolizes action, strength, energy and passion. It has the effect of motivation, stimulation, caution and attention. The positives are courage and confidence. But the negatives are anger, revenge and aggression. When you think of a bull, a bull you wave a red flag, and they come after it right. Although I think it's the waving that does it. Not quite the red, but we will say when somebody is angry, they saw red. So there are negatives to that color, but the positives, the positives of courage and confidence. That's pretty powerful to me. And red is one of the colors that I have always loved as well. I'm going to say that after every color. I love them all. I just love a world of color, bright, vibrant color. So we have red, how about orange? Orange is the color of enthusiasm and emotion. It exudes warmth and joy, and it's considered a fun color that provides emotional strength. It's optimistic and uplifting. Spontaneous. A brings a positivity to life. It's encourages it's it's social communication, its creativity, its youthful, and its energetic. Orange, pumpkin spice. You can't look at Orange and not smile. It's a beautiful color. That warmth. It's a fall it's the leaves. It's the piece it's the smell of the fall leaves. Orange is a beautiful color. Another one of my favorites. See told you. It symbolizes emotion, youth optimism, enthusiasm. It brings the effect of encouragement and uplifting someone of communicating with them. So the positives are spontaneous spontaneity and creativity, warmth and positivity. But on the negative side we have exhibitionism, superficial, impatient and domination. That really, this really fascinates me to look at color and what it elicits in us. And what if we didn't have all this color around us? Would we have the emotions we have? Would we have the feelings? Would we? Would we care so much about our surroundings without color? Color awakens us. So we've talked about red, we've talked about orange now we're going to get to yellow, yellow, which started this whole thing for me. It's the color of happiness and optimism. It's cheerful and energetic and brings fun and joy to the world. It makes learning easier, because it affects the logical part of the brain, stimulating perception and mentality and inspires thought and curiosity and boost enthusiasm and confidence. So does that mean if we have a yellow office, we're going to be more creative, I'm willing to put that to the test. I have one room a bathroom in our home that the whole thing is bright yellow from the from the bedroom into the adjoining bathroom, it is bright yellow, and I can't help but smile when I go in that room. And when I started researching colors, when I was when I was looking at that beautiful yellow dress and I started researching colors, I thought, Oh, I need to have a yellow office. It makes me happy and optimistic. It brings joy and makes learning easier because it affects the logical part of the brain. It's a beautiful, beautiful, vibrant color. It symbolizes as we said happiness and optimism, positivity intellect. The effect of it is clarity, inspiration, amusement and energizing. The positive side then of yellow is creativity and warmth and the negative is oh cowardice, deception egotism caution. If you ever heard of being yellow bellied, it means to be cowardly and afraid. So there's this negative side tlo that I don't want to think about.

Actually, all the colors, I just want to forget about the negative side. I'm just bringing it to you. You can do what you want with this information, but I'm going to tell you to focus on this positive part. The the happiness of the color yellow, it's a happy color. Bring it into your world in some way. Bring some daffodils into your house or some yellow daisies or some yellow roses bring yellow bring yellow into your world. The color green, green is the color of harmony and health growth, relaxation, revitalization of our body and mind balances our emotions. It leaves us feeling safe and secure gives us hope. And growth as we said prosperity provides a little bit of luck to help us along the way. Green is a beautiful, beautiful color. Another another room in our house is green. Because green as if you come into our house, you're going every room you walk in, it's going to be a different color. Because I couldn't decide on one because I love them all. But green calms me down. It just makes me feel the world is good. It symbolizes harmony and safety, growth. Health. The effect of it is is balancing us relaxing us so the positive sides are of green our generosity prosperity, luck, right think of st Patty's day it's green for exists love prosperity, but the negative is judgmental envy. materialism, green with envy means to be very jealous, and in the US we say green with envy. That's the negative part. So let's focus on that positive part of hope and prosperity and luck. To about the the color turquoise, that's another one of my favorite colors. They're all my favorite isn't we're just gonna keep saying this. It is the true color of calmness and clarity. stabilizes emotions increases empathy and compassion. It emits this cool calming piece think of the color turquoise right now in your brain. It just brings this piece this calm, a boost of positive mental energy craves balance. Like the waters of the Caribbean, just that calmness that of you've never seen like the waters of standing in in the ocean in the Caribbean and seeing that turquoise color weaving through it's so calming, it symbolizes compassion, clarity, calmness. The effect is is calming us. And the positive sides are concentration, growth, peace and empathy, with the negative side being stressed secrecy, boastfulness, narcissism, I don't know how I'm interested to know how colors got a negative side to them, because I'd like to just ignore them and talk about the positives that the colors Bring this piece this growth that turquoise brings to us. Another one of my favorites, and blue. Yeah, you guessed it, another one of my favorites, the color of trust and loyalty. Also calming and relaxing as turquoise was in green was makes us feel confidence cure. Blue dislikes confrontation, but it is honest, reliable and responsible. It symbolizes security and trust, loyalty and responsibility. It brings that calm and relaxing effect. The positive attributes of blue confidence, peace, honesty, reliability and the negative, passive, depressed, predictable. So let's focus on the competence piece honesty and reliability. Out of the blue out of the way he came out of the blue, it means that he appeared unexpectedly blue, another one of my favorites, trust and loyalty. And the last one we're going to talk about is purple, purple, the color of imagination and inspires us to divulge our innermost thoughts which enlightens us with wisdom. It's often associated with royalty and luxury. So if we say born to the purple, it means a born to royalty. It symbolizes mystery and royalty. It affects enlightening in US inspires us. It uplifts us, my bedroom growing up purple, my rug, purple, everything was purple. The positives are compassion and fantasy wisdom and creativity, the negative immaturity emotional. So let's take those positives and you know, let's just let's just talk about paying for a minute. Let's just talk about Pink. Pink is the color of love and compassion. It's the color of comforting sympathy. It makes us feel accepted. It's friendly and playful and nurtures us and brings joy and warmth into our lives. Are you seeing a trend here? A lot of these colors bring joy and warmth into our lives that symbolizes compassion and love thing Valentine's Day with the pinks and the reds. It brings this calming and nurturing effect. The positives is kind warm, romantic, the negative, it can be timid and immature and unconfident. But pink to me is the color of kindness and warmth, romance, intuition. It's a beautiful color. Listen, they all are. And it might seem like an odd thing that we're talking about color and we didn't even go We didn't even go over brown and black and gray and white but I don't want to keep you here all day. There's so many colors of the rainbow. There are so many Brown is a beautiful color. I love to wear Browns in the fall they bring a sense of just a sense of grounding to me. Black brings brings a sense of power and white a sense of purity.

it's compromise. It's neutral, conservative and unemotional. Can you imagine a world without color? It just really put me on this thought process when I took that bright yellow dress out of the bag and hung it up. What would we do without color in our lives? Have you ever thought about it? Have you ever thought about a black and white world and what that would mean? I am thankful that I can see color and I realize that there are people who don't see color. I'm so thankful for the color in my life around me. And I understand that there are people who don't see at all. And so if you have the gift of sight and you have the gift of seeing color, I want you to embrace that today. Gratitude, the journal some gratitude. This is your journal prompt.
