Your Life Isn't Over.
Stop listening to people who say your life is over.
One of my biggest pet peeves is when people tell women that their lives are over at 50. Or, they “joke” around by telling us these hallmark sayings on every birthday…
“The best part about being over the hill is that you’re not under it.”
*a card with you driving and the grim reaper is in the rear view mirror* Caption: Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear.
STOP!
I know these things are supposed to be funny, but they’re downers. Why do people need to act like being over 50 is ancient???
50 is young. 50 is vibrant.
When I was little and people would say those things, it enforced the idea that being 50 years old meant you’re weak, that your life is basically over.
I’m so thankful that my parents worked to fight those stigmas so I would grow up and know that being 50 doesn’t mean your life is over.
It’s still beginning! Only in recent years have I found who I really am and started to embrace that!
I’m just getting started, and so are you.
You’re on top of the world, not over the hill. You’re speeding up, not slowing down.
Read those again… and again… and again… until they sink in!
What do you think about those “over the hill” sayings? Tacky or funny?
