Amino Acids With Shelly Jo Wahlstrom Part 1 - 5HTP

I am so excited to share with you the very first part of my series with Shelly Jo Wahlstrom on amino acids!

We begin our discussion with 5-hydroxytryptophan or 5HTP for short.

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS 5HTP?

5HTP is a compound produced in the body from the amino acid tryptophan and is the immediate precursor to the neurotransmitter Serotonin as well as the hormone Melatonin. Serotonin helps regulate mood and behavior while Melatonin aids in the timing of your circadian rhythm.

WHY IS 5HTP IMPORTANT?

When Serotonin levels are where they are supposed to be, the body will have this overall feeling of positive wellness. When Serotonin levels become depleted, our bodies are now out of homeostasis and we experience symptoms such as depression, anxiety, exhaustion and that feeling of an afternoon crash.

HOW DO NEUROTRANSMITTERS BECOME DEPLETED?

This happens in many different ways. It could be genetics - people could simply be born with less. It could also be caused by an exposure to toxins or lifestyle choices such as diet.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN WE SUPPLEMENT WITH 5HTP?

We will be assisting the neurotransmitters to properly function therefore resulting in feelings of increased happiness and reduced anxiety. Who couldn’t use more of that?

Shelly Jo became a Hypnotherapist & Coach after years of struggling with sugar addiction, hoarding, and yo-yo dieting she found relief through these tools. Now, she is passionate about helping others find the joy she and her family experience.
