Amino Acids With Shelly Jo Wahlstrom Part 4 - DLPA
We’re continuing on our journey of amino acids with Part 4 of our series with Shelly Jo Wahlstrom! We are going to be diving into one of my favorites, DLPA or as I like to call it the “happy” amino acid.
WHAT IS DLPA?
DLPA or DL-Phenylalanine, is an amino acid supplement. It is a synthetic phenylalanine that has been known to help with enhancing mood, sharpening the mind, and easing discomfort. It is an essential amino acid, meaning you have to get it from food or a supplement.
WHY DO WE NEED TO SUPPLEMENT DLPA?
Sometimes when our endorphins (our happy hormones) are low, we will look to find a way to flood our bodies with them that may not always be healthy for us. When we take a DLPA supplement, we are increasing our endorphins without making the poor choices that leave us feeling worse later on.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD WE TAKE IT?
You can take DLPA up to 3 times per day. The great thing about supplementing these amino acids is you can listen to your body. If you need it, you are going to feel a difference within 20 minutes! It is recommended not to take after 3 PM or so, because it can give you energy and you may have a hard time falling asleep.
WHAT ARE SOME OTHER THINGS WE CAN DO TO NATURALLY INCREASE OUR HAPPINESS?
It is so important to be consuming protein all throughout the day. Spinach, kale, eggs and animal protein are all great sources for this. As well as consuming protein, you can also exercise, dance, laugh, create, and cuddle to flood your body with endorphins to make yourself happy. And of course, don’t forget those DLPA supplements for maximum results.
