Empowered by Women with Krystal Jugarap

Krystal Jugarap is a mother of two young girls, a full-time government employee, & founder of BOOKofBIJOUX (a line of chic & innovative jewelry storage) & EM/POWEREDbyWMN (our community platform dedicated to building connections between women in business & empowering them to create lives they love & deserve). We sat down recently and had a wonderful chat about one of my favorite topics: women empowering each other.

In the small business space, how can women connect with each other to form collaborations and relationships?

It’s all about building genuine relationships and creating a supportive community. Truly connecting with people is essential as opposed to just clicking “like” and following each other on Instagram. Our community is more than just the numbers, it is about people having a place to reach out, send that DM and really get to know each other. An important part of collaboration is not just the question of how can you help me, but what can I do for you? Being able to pitch who you are as well as what you can provide for someone in exchange is key.

Entrepreneurship is not just about getting a seat at the table, it’s about pulling up another chair.

As women, why are we sometimes afraid to ask for help?

Oftentimes women, especially moms, are seen as the caretakers. We have been hardwired to figure things out on our own. Also, there are some people that feel like they figured it out on their own, so others should as well.

There's so much knowledge out there and there's so much room for everyone to grow together that it doesn't make sense to gatekeep and hold it all in. Share the knowledge! Everyone has their own journey. People will that knowledge, tweak it, make it their own and turn it into something really special. For anyone that's worried about coming across those people, just keep asking. There are so many women that are willing to help and want to help you. We can’t do it alone!

There is power in numbers. We are stronger together than apart. Who are you going to reach out to today? You never know what kind of magic will happen!
