One of my favorite badass moments
Take the time to celebrate your badass moments in life. Tell me one of yours !!
I was recently involved in a challenge. And one of the things we have been challenged to do is to share one of our favorite bad ass moments. So I'm going to share with you one of my favorite badass moments.
Back in 2005, my dad was undergoing dialysis. And it was so rough for him. And we knew he needed to have a kidney if he was going to survive. And I remember asking to be tested. Actually, I didn't ask I demanded, I demanded that they test me to see if I was a match for my dad. And I was I was a match on every marker. We were a perfect, perfect match. But that wasn't enough, I also had to be perfectly healthy. And it was months and months and months months of testing to make sure that I was super healthy enough to give him a kidney and that he was healthy enough to receive that kidney. So we went through all the testing.
And I remember sitting in the office with my surgeon at Johns Hopkins University. And he was telling me or started to tell me all of the risks that would be involved with giving my dad a kidney as a live donor and only having one left and what could happen down the road if I needed to if my kidneys failed what if what my dad had was congenital or not congenital, but could be passed on?
And what if what all the what if and I remember stopping him and saying, Do you need to legally tell me all of this? And he said, Well, you should hear it. And I said but it doesn't matter. I'm doing this. I have never felt so strong in all my life, so bad ass, in my whole life than I did at that moment saying, I'm doing this for my dad.
We had nine years with him. He was an amazing man. And if I had to do it all over again, I would do it all over again. And again and again and again. It was life changing for both my dad and me for our families.
My favorite badass moment.
