Unhealthy to Healthy with Dr. Kylie Burton

I am so excited to share an interview I recently did with my friend Dr. Kylie Burton. Due to divine intervention, Dr. Burton was introduced to chiropractic and functional medicine the year following undergraduate school. She was mesmerized by the unique approach this type of medicine provided to patients and saw firsthand the impact it had on their health and lifestyle. Thus began her journey to becoming a chiropractor with a functional medicine specialty.

We began by discussing the process of methylation and the MTHFR gene.

What is methylation and why do we care?

When we get B vitamins from our food, it is not in the same form that our body uses it. Our body takes our edible B vitamin and converts it to a usable B vitamin which is the process called methylation. This is important because B vitamins are required for our cells to take food and convert them into energy. If you get told methylation issues, or are told you have MTHFR gene, it's just a tiny piece of the puzzle. There are a lot of different processes going on inside of the body and a lot of things that can go wrong.

What can we do to improve our health?

  1. Support the body with proper supplements

  2. Fuel our bodies properly with nutritious foods and clean water

  3. Conquer underlying infections

  4. Balance our hormones

  5. Properly detox

What bloodwork should I have done if I am not feeling well?

Make sure your doctor is ordering the following: CBC with Differential, Complete Metabolic Panel (CMP), full Thyroid panel, full lipid panel, Iron panel, Blood Sugar (A1C), Vitamin D, as well as hs-CRP(high-sensitivity C-reactive protein). We need the full picture of what is going on, because sometimes what the doctor orders will not show us everything.

What are you going to do to take yourself from unhealthy to healthy? I encourage you to dig deeper and get answers about your health! Your health is truly in your hands.
