We Live the Life We Have with Dave Moravec
I recently interviewed the wonderful, Dave Moravec. Dave's background includes 35 years of business ownership and leadership across multiple companies & industries. He was the chamber of commerce President in Hampshire, IL, owned his own printing business, and was involved in educational technology for 8 years.
Dave is an avid baseball fan - he loves both watching and playing. Naturally my first question to him was, “What have you learned from the game of baseball?”
Showing up (and showing up on time) - It’s a team effort. People are counting on you! Whether it is a game of baseball or a work environment, or your personal relationships. Show up, and show up on time.
Preparation - Prepare, prepare and prepare some more! If it’s baseball, you want to stretch and warm up before a game. If it is work or personal, you want to be ready for whatever is coming your way. Fail to plan, plan to fail.
Respect for leadership -Listen and learn from your mentors. Challenges can arise when we don’t listen to those who have gone before us. Listening to your peers is also helpful! Encouragement from our teammates can be the spark we need!
My next question to Dave was “How important is a positive mindset?”
“It takes 10 positives to overcome one negative”
Wow. That is pretty impactful to think about!
We live the life that we have for the amount of time that we're here on the earth. We have no idea how much time we have on this planet. So we need to do our best to make the most of it. Say YES more. Savor your relationships. People come into your lives at various points. You don’t know how they will affect you and what you’re going to take from that going forward. Spend time with loved ones as much as you can. Get out there and live your life.
